Puffins are probably the most loved sea birds in Britain and Europe, they have resilience and are great characters that are adorable and funny to watch, little clowns, if you like, they live to a great age and stay with their mate for life. Children absolutely love them.

That is one of the many reasons that our Regent and our Order works with the Uttoxeter Knitting Group to provide soft toys that sick children will love and cuddle.
The Order of the Fleur de Lys provides the material and the U3A group knits these beautiful cuddly toys. They are designed and provided for the sick children on Puffin ward of Derby hospital, the children’s ward is named after this lovely little sea bird and so they are greatly loved by the children. The Puffins are given to upset children and those undergoing different often distressing procedures such blood tests and scans as well as surgery.

Of course, the little soft puffins are not the only cuddly toys that are provided for the children, at Easter and at Christmas the knitting group make toys appropriate for that occasion, as well as supplying beautifully hand knitted baby blankets and cuddly toys for the neonate ward.

Every penny raised goes to this and other worthwhile charity work carried out by our Order and its wonderful partners to try to make a change in the suffering of young souls.

Our Regent Hermione has been sponsoring this effort for some years now.
