This UK bank holiday weekend was to be the Edinburgh Running Festival with the half marathon race being held on Sunday 24th May. The Marshal of the Order Right Noble Chevalier John D Watts KStJA had entered the race intending to gather sponsorship for the Orders charity, The Fleur de Lys Foundation

The last time John ran a half marathon was the Great North Run in September 2018 so had commenced training prior to the Covid19 lockdown being introduced with the target of beating his 13.1 mile (21 kms) Half-Marathon time of 2 hours 15 minutes.

John had even had a running shirt made up bearing the Fleur de Lys logo and a band of the recently approved Fleur de Lys tartan.

With UK social distancing measures meaning all organised runs had to be cancelled John continued training and on the day ran 13.1 miles in his local area completing the distance in 2 hours 9 1/2 minutes.

Many members supported the Orders Marshal for his efforts with a charitable donation to the Foundation.

Congratulations John, for the innovative raising of charitable funds in a difficult time and beating your own record.
